ROTARY PUMPS


Rotary pumps are positive displacement pumps that operate by trapping fluid in a series of interlocking cavities, known as rotors or lobes, and transferring it from the inlet to the outlet of the pump. There are several rotary pumps, including gear pumps, screw pumps, and vane pumps, each with a unique design and operating characteristics.


ROTARY-VANE PUMPS

Gear pumps are known for their simple design and high efficiency, making them popular for various applications. As the name suggests, Gear pumps consist of two interlocking gears rotating in opposite directions. Fluid is trapped between the gear teeth and carried around the pump casing from the inlet to the outlet, where it is discharged.


Screw pumps are known for their low vibration and ability to handle a wide range of fluids, making them suitable for applications where shear-sensitive liquids, such as food products and pharmaceuticals, are pumped. Screw pumps operate using two intermeshing screws that rotate in opposite directions. Fluid is trapped in the spaces between the screw threads and carried around the pump casing from the inlet to the outlet, where it is discharged.


Vane pumps use a rotor with several vanes that slide in and out of slots in the rotor as it rotates. As the rotor turns, fluid is trapped in the expanding cavity created by the vanes and transferred from the inlet to the pump outlet. Vane pumps are known for handling high-viscosity fluids, making them suitable for applications where thicker fluids must be pumped.


In general, rotary pumps are known for their ability to handle high flow rates and high-viscosity fluids. They are commonly used in the oil and gas industry, chemical processing, and food production, among other applications. GEAR PUMPS


Gear pumps are a type of positive displacement pump that moves fluid by using the meshing of gears to create a vacuum or displacement. They are often used for transferring high-viscosity fluids or for low-flow, high-pressure applications.

The most common type of gear pump is the external gear pump. In this design, two gears with interlocking teeth rotate in a tight-fitting housing. Fluid enters the pump through an inlet port and is carried around the outside of the gears. As the gears mesh, the fluid is forced into the pump’s discharge port.


Another type of gear pump is the internal gear pump. In this design, a smaller gear with external teeth is inside a larger gear with internal teeth. As the gears rotate, fluid is trapped between the teeth and the pump casing and is forced around the outside of the gears to the discharge port.


Gear pumps can be made from a variety of materials, including cast iron, steel, bronze, and plastic. They are relatively simple in design and can operate at high speeds, making them ideal for many industrial applications.


However, gear pumps are not well-suited for pumping abrasive or corrosive fluids, as the tight tolerances between the gears can be damaged by particulate matter or chemical attacks. Additionally, they may not perform well when handling fluids with high gas content, as air or gas bubbles can become trapped in the gear cavities and reduce pumping efficiency.
